Worm Drive Hose Clamps – German Vs. Swedish

Nov 1, 2021 | Fasteners

These are not your typical hose clamps. Worm drive hose clamps are highly engineered for heavy duty applications. They are called worm drive clamps in reference to the helical-threaded screw or worm gear that is housed inside the clamp. When the installer turns the screw, it meshes with the slots in the band and tightens the clamp. The clamp provides a hi-torque grip on the hose connection that eliminates leaking or loosening.

Used in a variety of industrial applications, both German and Swedish style worm hose clamps perform beyond American style clamps.

IFE worm drive hose clamps in both German and Swedish styles are remarkable for their features and holding power. They are used in harsh environments which can affect clamping effectiveness, and are ideal in applications where corrosion, vibration, radiation, weathering and temperature extremes are a concern. Stainless steel hose clamps can be used in any outdoor or indoor application.

The difference between the two types of clamps might look minimal to the eye, but the engineers at IFE have made them distinctly different in order to meet the standards for a multitude of industries.

German Style

German style worm drive hose clamps are made of W4 austenitic stainless steel or the more economical W3 ferritic stainless steel. The rolled edges help protect and eliminate scratching the hose surface during installation which helps avoid gas or liquid leaking from the hose. The non-perforated or non-slotted band eliminates hose extrusion.

IFE German style clamps are also available with a built-in spring that provides a dynamic clamp to prevent hose expansion and contraction caused by thermal cycling and compression set. They are ideal for high pressure applications such as fuel lines, emission controls, vacuum hoses, engine machinery, and hose fittings for ships.

German Style Worm Drive Hose Clamps

Features:

  • 9mm and 12mm widths
  • Higher torque than American type hose clamps
  • German-type wolf teeth reduce chafing and damage
  • Corrosion resistant
  • Vibration resistant
  • Performs under high pressure

Swedish Style

The one-piece, non-welded bands on Swedish style worm drive hose clamps deliver maximum strength, performance and dependability. They are constructed with 316 stainless steel and come in 10 and 12mm widths. All AISI 316 stainless steel clamps are suited for marine applications, and are the choice of yacht-makers worldwide.

Swedish style hose clamps have rolled edges that protect hoses from abrasion, and a smooth I.D. that increases conversion of torque to clamping force while reducing any chance of hose damage.
